Q.7 Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you

At the beginning of the course a had lack of knowledge when it came to media, what my main problems were was attention to detail and concentration levels. At the start of the year we made a preliminary task to try and display vital continunity technique, shot reverse shot, match on action and the one hundred and eighty degree rule. The comprasion between my opening title sequence and preliminary task there is a big difference.

Q 6 what have you learnt about technologies from process of constructing this product ?

Over the last year I have improved my media skills greatly I've learnt various different skills this has helped me complete my opening title sequence.

blogs

When creating my blog I used loads of pictures, screen grabs and videos to create a very visual effect this is to get a high standard mark on blog. One major technique I learnt was using contact sheet, a contact sheet is made up of 9 shots you've grabbed from the film this shows people what type of film it is. I also learnt how to embed clip on to my blogger using Youtube.

Hardware - Imacs, tripods, camera etc...

I firstly came in to contact with a tripod at the start of the year when learning the basics of how to make a film what a tripod does is it allows you to move the camera pan across or tilt with out a having a shaky shot. Ive always used a video camera since I was little boy it helps you take photo and make films .

Garage Band

Jordan one of peers who is into music taught me how to use it he told me it creates instrumentals and melodies and its a good way make music for your film and good for setting tones of for your film. It is also good for finding sample music.

Q5 how did you attract address your audience?

Q3. What kind of media instition might disrtube your media product and why?

Having researched distrubting companies such as Warner Bros and 20th century fox I come to conclusion that Revolver Entertainment the reason why I choosen this is because this conpany has disirtbuted many film simliar to are such as adulthood , kidulthood, The Kid, Dawn of evil: rise of reich, Legacy: Black ops and many others. All of the films that they produce are very thugish and high drama thats why I would want them to distrubte are film.Revolver Entertainment

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

In our film, we used typical stereotypes in are film to make certain people relate to are opening title sequence e.g. black male the criminal and the white male the snitch.

file:///Users/12bms/Desktop/Picture%201.png

In our film we show that black male is the criminal and the white male as the snitch we used this common sterotype so it would be easier for the veiwer to understand the film.

Both men are in similar because of they posture and are quite bulit men. They also are in the same situtation because they are both in prison wearing orange prision garments and looking directly in to camera showing agression in their eyes. There facial expressions show that they are angry at the fact that they are in prision and show and can't wait to get out. Both shots are taken indoors and are with a white background however the lighting in the second shot is different because we wanted to create effect of what is happening in the shot is past tense. They also have sort of same hairstyle this shows that they must be both from a rough background. Overall I personally think that the elements are the same in both shots and it shows a very thug ish and gangster social group. the people who made the film where i got the shot from a wanted make it a very hardman sort of film.

Q1. In what ways does your media product use develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

In this particular question I will comment on how my film usesmedia products through the use of conventions and other real media products. through most of my film we very simple but effect conventions, we tried to make it as thriller like as possible for example at the start of the opening title sequence we used sepia tone to create the effect that one of the characters was having a flashback this is used in alot film and this start also in are film sets the tone for the whole film. We used simple white font with a black background this also done in alot film to create mystery and suspense to the audience. we reseached are music through free sounds I personally think the all the music we choose went well together because of the type of film we done.

Inception

Titles

This opening sequence is a bit different because the titles of the roles are not shownat the beginning. as an alternative, the title INCEPTION is shown at the end of the title sequence. All the other essential conventions of a thriller opening sequence are presented .As shown in the screens that I got from the film, many close ups are used. this is done to keep the veiwers guessing and making them want to see more of the film.

Setting / location

The setting and the location is revealed with the use of a master shot. It is 6th shot in the opening title sequence. The screens shown beforehand are close ups of the main character. this limits the veiwers vision of what they want to see and makes us as viewers ask questions like who is this? and what role will he play in the film?

We can tell its a thriller by the opening sequence alone just because of when Leonardo Di Caprio was laying down on the beach it sunddenly changed to a dark eerie enviroment.

Editing work

As I mentioned, many of the shots in the opening title sequence are close ups. this is to obscure the veiwers guessing and leaving mystery aswell. The main character is dragged into a building and thrown infront of a chinese man.Neither of them speaks for several seconds, making the atomsphere seem tense and suspense builds.

-Little clues of to how the film is going to pan out

-Sound is used to create a certain mood and tone which usually tells us as the audience the type of film we are going to watch.

-mis en scence e.g. framing of the and cinematography e.g. close ups etc... is used to tease the audience and leave us guessing.

Analysis of Momento

There are many ways in which we can tell that Momento is a thriller.

Starting from the end
What Momento does that most thrillers do is that they start the end from the begining the reason why they do this is because to leave suspense and keep us as the audience clues to what may happen later in the film e.g. the first scence is of the man with a gun to his head and makes us want to know why is this?

Clues

Like most films in the opening title sequence the directors try use clues to make us as the audience understand the film and how the clues may help us

casting (Main Characters)

Casting

Jake Gellar - Hooded Thug

Played by: Tyler Watts

Age: 18

Ethnicity: White British

Appearance: Blonde hair, Blue eyes.

Height: 5 ft 11

Reasoning: Malcolm and Jordan have known each other for much longer than I have known either of them. Therefore, It would make sense for them to be friends in the opening sequence, as the performance will be more realistic/convincing. This left me with the role of the 'hooded thug'.

Tony Brando - Falsely Imprisoned man

Played by: Jordan Fakolujo

Age: 17

Ethnicity:

Appearance:

Height:

Reasoning: Jordan has experience of being in front of the camera as shown in his youtube videos. Therefore, he'd be less likely to get nervous and give an all round good performance. This character is the 'main' role in the sequence/film, meaning the actor playing this needs a calm state of mind.

Matthew Casey - Tony's friend

Played by: Malcolm Uzodibia

Age: 17

Ethnicity:

Appearance:

Height:

Reasoning: Jordan and Malcolm are friends in reality, meaning that they can both give a convincing performance when acting. It's logical for Malcolm to play this character.

There isn't much dialogue in our title sequence. The lack of dialogue leaves the audience wondering more, which is the purpose of an opening sequence.

(reverse clash sound effect)

titles

We originally choose this font for our title sequence. We choose this is because its unusual and disorted, as is our film. the font of the titles and the way they're displayed says a lot about the contents of the film. We want the audience to feel uncomfortable and uneasy when watching out opening sequence and the font helps.

Storyboard

Conventions of a thrillers

Conventions of a thriller

Close up :

Close ups are very common in allot of film genres but no more so than thrillers because they are enphzied in thrillers because they want to leave as many clues as possible leaving us as the audience guessing making us want to know more about the film.

Clues :

Clues are key to any film because it leaves us as the viewers wandering what is that for or we know what its for but we want to know when they are going to use it, which leaves us excited which the directors are trying to do.
