How does the opening sequence realte to the film ?
and
The opening sequence sets up the story because we have an injuried man who is acting weridly and who has already confessed to a murder. these are things that you would generally see throughout a film this is good because this makes us as a veiwer think that more strange and exciting things are going to happen during the film
Kiss me deadly
The titling of the film is very strange and breaks the normal way of doing titles for film the titling goes down when usually it goes up this confuses us as the audience makes us wonder why they have done that and another thing they have done which is confusing they have changed the name of the title from ' kiss me deadly' to 'deadly kiss me' this also makes us ask why they have done that. The font style is very simple and basic with a big white font this was common back in the fifties because movie and media had only been around for fifty years at this point.
The setting and location :
The location starts off in a dessert remote location this adds to the thriller effect that the director was trying to achieve the reason why they have done is because they wan to create a thriller effect and dessert and remote area are the most common way of getting that effect.
how are the characters introduce :
The way the woman is introduced is by her running away bare footed we can tell she is scared by her facial expression at 1st we want to know what she is running away from? this also shows her vulnerability to whatever is shes running away she is so desperate that she is even asking for lifts off strangers.
We firstly see the man skidding to avoid crashing in to the woman and the first thing he says to her is 'you almost wrecked my car' before even asking her if she was okay and to me this means he cares more about a material items than human life but then we find out later in the opening sequence is that he kinder than what he makes out to be because when the police are looking for the woman who he is in the car he saves her by lying to the police. This also to makes me think that he is curious and wants to know more about the woman and why she running away from the mental hospital and maybe he might not like the police and that also could be the reason why he lied to the police.
Costumes and props :
The woman is wearing a trench coat with nothing underneath which is a sort of mystery this is emphasis by when the man asks her if she is normally walks nothing but a trench coat she replies by saying a man took my clothes off me and made me wear the trench coat then the man replies by saying why and she says I couldn't tell you that.
Sound
At the beginning of the film we hear the lady panting to emphasis her being tiredness and her being scared we also hear drums and trumpets being played this is make the thriller effect that the director was trying to get at .
Genre
This is a thriller the reason why I know this is because it has all the makings of thriller with a lot mystery a lot of close ups which does give anything away.
Brick
The font style is what you would see in a typical thriller black background with the big white font making the title in center of the frame and the editor has also separated the letters to give it a sort of lonley effect. The reason why this is done in most thrillers because its a sort of scary and mystery effect towards the film.
Setting and location
The establishing(master) is in a sewage sort of place with a teenage boy in a crouched down position looking at a girl doesn't seem to be moving which makes us wonder as the viewers is she dead? how did they get to that place? and was it him who killed the girl? the expression on the teenage boys face was of shock, confusion , paranoia and various other expression this makes us as the audience want to know more about the film which good because that is the whole point of the opening sequence.
Costumes and props
The purpose of the props sometimes is to give us clues as to what is about to happen in the film there are a few props used in the opening sequence one of the main props used is the dark blue bangles on the girl who is lying dead in little stream, I believe the reason why they used dark blue bangles is because blue is the colour of depression and sometimes death. the person who put something the the teenage boys locker is the same girl who died in the gutter we can tell this because of the bangles this was also probably one of the last things she did which makes us ask why did she put the note in his locker? what does she want him to know that no one else can know ? and more importantly why is she dead ?
Editing
The editing in the opening sequence is very clever and I also think it is very typical of a thriller loads of close ups and master shot the reason why they do this is because they do not want to give anything away by and getting the viewers to understand where the film is taking place. the shot I liked the most was of the dead girl and her bangles were dangling in stream for me it just makes me think of death and depression.
Genre (thriller)
We can tell this is a thriller by the font style of the title, close ups don't giving anything away, the props that use to give us clues as to how the story is going to unfold and panic and worry in the faces of the characters.

Wallander(Maccormick, 2008,UK)

Title
The Wallander font style isnt the same as every other thriller we see it is starts off with a yellow background and then we see a black and sharp looking shape which could be the knife the teenage girl drops yellow and black usually symbolises caution and danger.
How the setting and location revealed
The way the opening starts is in the countryside with lots of grass and country roads, suggesting a remote area far from the city. this secluded makes us think straight away as the audience what are they doing there ? also, the setting is revealed as an extreme long shot meaning that the audience can just about see the objects in the frame a white car and two people walking, this creates curiosity as the audience will ask why is the car stoppped in of nowhere? and why are those two people walking away? the setting is also revealed as a very eerie and strange place setting the tone for the opening sequnce of pessimism, making the audience on edge as they know whats going to happen next isn't going to be upbeat.
Costumes/Props:
The first thing you realise about what the characters they are both waering very dark and punkish sort of clothingwhich suggest that they may be negative people and dont really care about a lot of things. This makes the audience instantly think they are bad people and quiet uneasy about the two characters as they look out of place and looking for trouble, both of them have blood on their hands ans faces linking the taxi where we see a man unconscious. This makes the audience ask whether the girls did it and if so why ?
How the opening sequnce sets up the story :
The opening seqence sets up the story as it forces the audience to ask lots of questions making them want to know whats going to happen next. It does this by keeping the viewers with little infomation making them feel unsettled and uneased becuase they dont know whats going to happen, they dont know due to the fact that the two girls have already cambated stereotypes of teengers.
Genre:
It is a thriller as it follows all the basic conventions including, tense music, mysterious characters, unknown and violence.

The sixth sense
The title and font style :
The title of six sense is very typical thriller title with the white font with black background the reason why this done with most thriller is because of the tension it brings us as viewers it makes us want to know more about the film.
genre(thriller) how does the opening suggest it? :
The start film starts off with a black out then we see a light bulb which quickly shows us what type of film it is and where the opening is based(indoors) then it cuts to a woman in a dark celluar picking out wine which makes us wonder what she doing there? and who is she ? and why does she look scared ?
costume and props:
There are alot of props used in the opening title the light bulb is the most important one because it sets the tone for the film it is used to start the film and make us as the audience scared and sucked into the film. there are lite up candels with pictures that a little kids have drawn saying 'thanks'to show there appreiction of what the man us done for them this which makes us wonder what does he do for a living? And then there is a sort of certifcate that shows us what he does for living. The costumes used in the film are typical clothing of a well off couple the woman is wearing a purple dress which possibly could be expensive, the man is wearing shirt and some smart shoes which shows us that the jobs that he does pays him and his wife well.
How any characters are introduced ?
The woman is introduced first in the dark wine celluar and then the man is introduced in thier living room drinking wine together they seem happy together but then they show both of there personalities when they find a man in there bathroom the woman shows that she is scared by looking down and hiding behind her husband and the man is showing a compelte opposite side to attuide towards the man in the bathroom by asking him what is he doing and showing anger and shock on his face.
Interesting camera work/ editing :
The camera work done is typical of a thriller type film, there are mainly close ups and focus points in the start of the film which is what you would expect in a opening title sequence because it makes us want to know more about the film there are also many clever shots shown in the film le.g. when they see a find out that there window has been broken they use eyeline match to make us as audience believe its us who is in the postion of the viewers, this makes us want to know whats happen and who has broken in to the house.

Opening sequence to Momento
The creator of the title has deliberatly used a black background with white faded font so he can give the effect that it is a thriller or some kind of a scary flim. I personally believe that colours they have used are quite scary, leaving us with a mystery to solve and very hostile.
The type of shots that the cameraman in the opening sequence( photographer or cinemaphotography) uses are extreme close ups this stops us from seeing the reason why the man was laying down with a bullet in his head, this is very clever use of the camera because it makes us want to know more about the flim.
