understanding the difference between a trailer and a opening sequence

The purpose of the trailer

There are many differences between and opening sequence and a trailer.
With a trailer all you want is overview of the plot you don't want to give the whole movie away but you want to know the type of genre it is, from the audiences point of view we want to see short fast clips not giving to much away showing us the best bits of the movie giving us a sense of thrill like the movie is worth spending money on and maybe telling your friends about it we also want to know who is acting in the movie.

the convention of a trailer

1. The voice over - depending on the voice e.g. female or male, deep voice or high pitched. Tells what type of film its going to be e.i. deep voice scary thriller film, female voice kids movie.

2. Information about the film, website and release date - At the end of most trailers they usually show info about the film e.g. the release date, website telling us about the film.

The purpose
the purpose of the opening sequence is to set the tone for the movie give us an idea of what is about to happen in the film focusing the viewers only on the film and nothing else around them use slower paced shots so the viewers can grasp the point of the whole movie.
